Welcome to the 119th St. Tennis Association Website.

You've come to the right place to find association news, learn about upcoming events and tournaments, find new hitting partners, and learn about all of the benefits of membership. We have put together a section for people that are interested in joining. We hope to count you among our members in the 2012 season.

Note: NYC Parks and Recreation Tennis Permits are for sale and are required from Saturday, March 31 through Sunday, November 25, 2012. See the NYC Parks and Recreation website for further information and to renew online. Starting in mid-March permits will be available at the Arsenal at 61st Street and 5th Avenue (2011 Prices: Adults $200, Seniors $20, Juniors $10; Single Play passes $15 per person). First-time permit buyers must purchase their permit at the Arsenal, Paragon Sporting Goods or by mail.

Year-round rule: courts are signed for on a first-come, first-served basis. A season permit or a Parks issued single play pass are required to reserve a court; one hour for singles, two-hours for doubles. Repeats allowed only if there is availability.

A $5 (reduced from $15) an hour pilot reservation system was launched on July 20, 2011 for city-wide courts, including at 119th Street. For information, please click on the link: http://www.nycgovparks.org/tennisreservation/

Our resident pros are Dave Kardas and Jaime Bravo. To sign-up for adult or kids programs or private lessons, please contact Dave at moc.nsm|evresruoy#moc.nsm|evresruoy or call him at 203-520-9815 or contact Jaime at moc.liamg|ydusymmij#moc.liamg|ydusymmij or call him at 561-310-7791.

Court hours are 8:00 a.m. - sundown. Please be advised that court attendants clean the courts between 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 a.m. We request your cooperation to briefly cease play while courts are maintained. This is for your safety as well as for general cleanliness needs!

Highlights of the 2011 Season:

Our 2011 tennis tournament season, coordinated by Tournament Directors Marty Appel and Amy Ayres, has concluded. The 60+ tournament was cancelled this year. Too many injuries. Heal for 2012!

Our Annual Reception and Tournament Award Presentations at Symposium Restaurant was held on October 18. As always, it was a most festive occasion. Approximately 45 members and guests attended and toasted our wonderful and talented champions. We bid a fond farewell to Anne-Marie Jannuzzo and Marty Appel, both stepping down from our Board of Directors. We were pleased to introduce their replacements: Josie Atienza, Director, Community Partnerships and Patrick Duvalsaint, Tournament Director. "Don Marty" Appel promises to remain involved as a consultant.
Anne-Marie provided a wonderful cake to wish us all the best success in the future. We will miss her sunny enthusiasm and generosity of spirit!

Recap of the 2011 tournaments: Adam Davis def. Wataru Yanai in the Men's Open. Fedor Khrushchev def. Fred Boucher in the Men's Invitational. Masaki Kasetani and Napua Davoy retained their status as Mixed Doubles champions by defeating Taichi Onuki and Yuka Hirose. Liron Weiss defended her title by defeating Yuko Takubo in the Women's Open. Masaki Kasetani defeated Andy Rubien in the 45+. And, in an exciting Men's Doubles Round-Robin, Ian Katz & Kyle Warner defeated Tim Ogashi and James Paek. Congratulations to our champions and finalists and all the participants for another terrific tournament season!

We kicked off the spring and early summer by co-hosting with NYC Tennis Partners a series of sold out Speed Tennis events, coordinated by Joanie Schroeder.

We once again hosted the City Parks Foundation and Columbia University free tennis programs for kids on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings. These popular programs concluded in mid-August.

The Metropolitan Tennis Group's 13th Annual Matthew Shepard JAM was held at our courts on Saturday, October 15. The JAM attracted 75+ participants and raised over $6,000 to benefit the Matthew Shepard Memorial Fund.

We appreciate your support especially in these challenging financial times. We could use more volunteer help and membership on our Board of Directors. Please contact me if you wish to be involved! As always, many thanks.

See you at the courts!

Sincerely,

Liz Westbrook Hydes
President
